The rivalry was already 40 years old before anyone kept score.
Time Travels launches Friday, September 11th at Rock Island Bridge with UMKC professor David Trowbridge and a look at the 1850s Missouri and Kansas Border War, the fight that gave Kansas City its oldest grudge. Trowbridge is the creator of Clio, the free app that maps historical sites across the country, and he’ll walk through the strange turns in the story that most people around here never learned in school. The talk runs 5:30 to 6:30 with an audience Q&A to close it out. Kickoff follows at 7:00, so you can get the backstory and then watch the modern version play out above the Kansas River.
Here’s What to Expect:
- A visual history of the 1850s Missouri and Kansas Border War
- Dr. David Trowbridge, UMKC professor and creator of the Clio history app
- Audience Q&A after the presentation
- The first night of Time Travels, a new Kansas City history series on the bridge
- Real context for the rivalry, an hour before kickoff
