⚠️ Launch Location: Kaw Point (NOT the bridge).
Join Paddle KC members and local kayak, paddleboard and canoe owners for the 1st Sunday Paddle & Pints series from May through September. Launching from Kaw Point on June 7, this 1st Sunday Paddle & Pints is a relaxed river paddle that includes a break for food, drinks, and social time on the Rock Island Bridge. The fun begins on the water and continues above it. Each first Sunday you’ll launch from different locations to explore a bit of river, then connect over social time on the bridge.
Here’s What to Expect:
- A guided all-experience-levels relaxed paddle from Kaw Point on the Kansas River, using your own gear (no rentals are provided)
- Paddling – this is not a float, so you’ll keep your paddles moving for the trip to the bridge and back on this flatwater river
- Food, drinks, and social time on the Rock Island Bridge above the Kaw River
- A brief 10-minute talk during social time for local kayak, SUP, and canoe owners – “Simple Safety Tips and Gear for Paddlers” is the June topic.
- A fun way to enjoy an afternoon on and over the river with other local paddlers
Required:
- Bring your own kayak, paddleboard or canoe – no rentals are provided. No inflatable kayaks for safety reasons due to possible submerged debris not visible. Inflatable SUPs are fine but short rubber river fins are recommended.
- Life jackets will be worn and fastened, for safety reasons.
- Water shoes or paddling shoes – no flipflops or shoes that do not fasten behind your heel.
Whether this is your first or forty-first season of paddling, you’ll enjoy these two-part events. The best part is connecting on the bridge and toasting shared interests!
